Henry Mancini (1924-1994) is best remembered for his film and television scores. He won a record number of Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. Mancini had a long collaboration with the film director Blake Edwards and won numerous Academy Awards for the songs in Edwards’ films. Songs with music by Mancini were staples of the easy listening genre from the 1960s to the 1980s. Mancini’s contribution to jazz went far beyond putting jazz music on the screen and composing songs that became jazz standards. For many years, he was the leader of a group of variable size which included many jazz stars. With this group, Mancini recorded numerous albums, among them the one included here, In a Latin Mood, on which he focuses on Latin rhythms.
