Despite four out of the five members of this captivating musical group hailing from foreign lands, Analogy unquestionably deserves a prominent place in the realm of Italian pop music. What sets this ensemble apart is that, despite their diverse origins, they spent their entire artistic careers in Italy, significantly contributing to the national music scene and producing all their records in the country. The original lineup featured four talented German musicians, three of whom grew up in the picturesque Varese region, while the fourth, Thurn-Mithoff, joined the group in 1968. Alongside them were two distinguished Italians: the Arona-born keyboardist, Nicola Pankoff, and the bassist Mauro Rattaggi.
Initially known as The Joice, a misunderstanding with the record label led to an accidental change of name to Yoice, under which they released their first and only single through the independent label Produzioni Ventotto, distributed carefully by Messaggerie Musicali.
The year 1972 marked a turning point for the group, with Rattaggi leaving and the rhythm guitarist Schoene transitioning to bass. During this period, Analogy changed their name, gaining national recognition and the opportunity to perform at significant events such as the Pop Festival at Caracalla in Rome and the Be-In in Naples. Despite this success, they remained surprisingly unknown beyond Italian borders, except in Switzerland. Their album, a rare and intriguing work, showcased rock-blues influences, with the magnificent voice of singer Jutta Nienhaus taking center stage, and boasted a distinctive cover featuring the group members completely nude.
In 1973, keyboardist Nicola Pankoff departed from the group, although he continued to pursue his musical and artistic career. He was replaced by the talented flutist Rocco Abate. Analogy disbanded definitively around 1974, leaving behind a legacy of over 250 concerts in Italy and approximately sixty in Switzerland. Despite their relatively underrated international recognition, their contribution has left an indelible mark on the history of Italian music.
